American Saddlebred Horse Association
The American Saddlebred Horse Association of New Jersey was formed and incorporated in 1968 by a group of Saddlebred horse owners headed by Marjorie Van Ness, a prominent and distinguished horsewoman. The purpose of the Association was to promote and stimulate interest in the breeding and showing of registered American Saddlebreds in the state of New Jersey and to promote all phases of the horse industry in the state. Following these original precepts, the organization today also actively promotes the versatility of the Saddlebred and its use as a pleasure horse.
In 1980 the Association became a Charter Club member of the restructured American Saddlebred Horse Association, the first breed association in America, founded in 1891, and headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.
The principal activity of the ASHA of NJ has been the sponsorship of the Good Time Horse Show until 1984 and since 1986, the Jersey Classic Horse Show, which makes its home at The Horse Park of New Jersey.
An award program for Saddlebreds showing in various divisions at qualifying horse shows is held each year and culminates with the presentation of these awards at the annual banquet.
We thank all of the members, past and present, who haven given of and continue to give their time and talents to achieve the goals of this organization!
